Why get married if staying single is better?
The Holy Scriptures provide guidance for living in a way that pleases God, including the concept of marriage. Many Christians struggle with the idea of marriage and balancing their Christian life with their personal desires. The desire for marriage often stems from the wish to have children and find emotional fulfillment, which can sometimes conflict with God's intentions.
Those who argue for marriage often reference the biblical text that states God said "it is not good that man should be alone" and that a suitable helper would be created for him. This text also details how God created Eve as Adam's companion. It is worth noting that Adam did not question or have a say in the appearance or qualities of the woman God provided for him.
This perspective challenges the modern approach to marriage, where individuals often prioritize physical appearance, compatibility, and social qualities when choosing a spouse. God's design for marriage did not involve a choice, but rather the creation of one specific woman for Adam.
The Apostle Paul's opinion on marriage is not explicitly mentioned in this text, but he is known to have encouraged singleness as a way to better serve God and avoid worldly distractions. However, these views vary among individuals and different interpretations of biblical teachings.
Ultimately, the decision to marry or remain single is a personal one. The important thing is to seek God's guidance in this matter and live according to His will, whether that means embracing the companionship of marriage or choosing a life of singleness in order to devote oneself entirely to God's work.
