Every living being depends on being connected to something in some way. There’s also a need for interdependence among them. But you have to know how. Let’s take a look.

I’m not going to beat around the bush; I’ll get straight to the topic I want to discuss.

A human being remains connected to his mother from conception until birth, when he is physically separated from her but continues to depend on her for sustenance—that is, to receive the breast milk that will enable his growth and development. And even for several years afterward, he depends on his mother or a guardian to learn how to become independent throughout his life.

The same is true of human beings in relation to their Creator. From the moment they are adopted into the divine family—and this must happen—they are conceived, born, die, and are resurrected to a new life. From then on, they must remain connected to God in order to be nourished and to bear fruit. For if this does not happen, they will be cut off, since they were already disconnected.

And this connection occurs through obedience to God’s commandments. 1 John 3:24, first part.

Simply declaring acceptance of Jesus as your Savior is not enough for this connection. For there must be a covenant, and this is God’s law. Deut. 4:13. It is no use saying that you want to belong to God, that you believe in Him, or that you love Him, if you do not accept the conditions He has set for this.

Jesus said:
“ABIDE IN ME, AND I IN YOU: JUST AS A BRANCH CANNOT BEAR FRUIT BY ITSELF UNLESS IT REMAINS ON THE VINE, SO NEITHER CAN YOU UNLESS YOU REMAIN IN ME. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever remains in me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not remain in me, he is cast out like a branch and withers; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. IF YOU REMAIN IN ME, AND MY WORDS REMAIN IN YOU, ASK WHATEVER YOU WISH, AND IT WILL BE DONE FOR YOU. In this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; AND IN THIS WAY YOU WILL BE MY DISCIPLES. Just as the Father has loved me, so have I loved you; REMAIN IN MY LOVE. IF YOU KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS, YOU WILL REMAIN IN MY LOVE; just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in his love.” John 15:4–10.

So remain connected, in order to bear fruit. For otherwise, it will not be possible to remain in him. And the absence of fruit will certainly reveal the absence of connection.
